For everyone traveling to Falls this week – get ready for a blast!!

We’ve checked in with the onsite caterers and to be honest, there isn’t a lot of Tassievore catering going on.  Tornado Potato use potatoes grown just around the corner from the Marion Bay Falls festival site for their deep fried goodness and Top Nosh use Tassie grown mushrooms for their tempura.  And that’s all we know about!  We were a little slow in contacting the awesome Falls crew regarding adequate Tassievore options, sorry about that.  We’ll work with the coordinators at Marion Bay to try and ensure future Falls caterers consider using local produce more widely.

So – to self cater! Put ice in the Eski and try to keep meat 4 degrees or below.  Consider making oat bars with local nuts and dried fruit or bake a loaf of fruit bread (we have a spiced spelt loaf in the recipe section of our website!) for a quick, easy to store breakfast.  Apples, stone fruits and berries are all available, but make sure they don’t get squished in the commute! meals like the veggie quinoa stirfry in the recipe section of our website can be made pre-Falls and stored in an airtight container in the Eski.  Do you have any other ideas to share for Tassievore meals that travel and store well?   1. On the way to or from Falls you could always call into beautiful Ross. Bakery 31 has Tasmanian Scallop pies full of TASMANIAN Scallops and delicious meat pies with locally sourced beef or try a Salmon & Brie pie with beautiful Petuna Salmon and Wicked Brie Cheese. Great Coffee.

  2. I’m not heading to Falls, but as a “special dietary requirements” person I have lots of experience with self-catering I hope may be useful. Sweet (with honey) and savoury muffins make a great breakfast or snack, and with local berries in season there are lots of tasty options (or try a local goats cheese, garlic & herb variant). A pre-baked fruit crumble with oat topping also makes a portable breakfast treat.

    Cured meats travel well, and Mt, Gnomon Farm make some excellent Tassie free-range ham & chorizo, Yondover do great goat cabana or pick up a jar of local rillets or confit (special mention to Sirocco South’s “bush confit”). Hard boiled eggs are great for protein on-the-go, as are local walnuts and hazelnuts to nibble on. Raw veggies are always good, especially with a Tassie seasonal dip like broad bean hummus or a fresh summer pesto.

    For your carb fix, pre-bake some savoury biscuits or oat cakes, cook up some Kindred quinoa to toss into salads or try your hand at making gnocchi or latkes from Tassie potatoes!
